Texas Innovates is a non-profit promoting a science, education, and entrepreneurship “hard-tech” innovation ecosystem in Houston, focusing on solving major industry energy challenges in the Hydrogen and Decarbonization ecosystem, and paving the way for an internationally recognized energy innovation district.

Our goals are to create new programming, support startup creation, and build regional partnerships that foster a vibrant and sustainable energy ecosystem in Texas.

Hydrogen and CCUS have the potential to decarbonize multiple sectors of the economy, such as transportation, power generation, industrial processes, and heating. However, they also face significant technical, regulatory, and market challenges that require specialized incubation services. Our program aims to address these challenges by providing tailored support for hydrogen and CCUS startups in collaboration with UH and other partners.

Funding the incubator launch is the Phase 1 award from Energy Program for Innovation Clusters (EPIC) prize from the U.S. Department of Energy.  The full EPIC prize is a $1 million award that supports the creation of regional innovation clusters for energy-related technology and entrepreneurship. You can find more information about the EPIC prize at https://www.energy.gov/articles/department-energy-announces-energy-incubator-prize-selections

As part of the Houston Hydrogen Ecosystem, we recognize the need to provide high-quality services for hydrogen and CCUS startups that can help them overcome the technical, regulatory, and market barriers they face. We believe that our program and proposed partnerships can fill this gap and create a pipeline of innovative solutions that can contribute to the transition to a low-carbon economy.
